Dallas and Denver should make a deal because each has something the other wants.

The Broncos aren’t drafting until the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but the Cowboys have six draft picks, while Denver has Courtland Sutton, a No. 2 wideout, which Dallas could use.

The Athletic’s Lindsay Jones recently said, “Sutton’s name has been buzzing around a little bit as a guy who could get moved.”

Sutton is an attractive trade piece because, outside of Odell Beckham Jr., the WR free-agent market is thin. He’s also a productive target.

The former Pro Bowler has recorded 50 or more receptions three times in five seasons, including 64 in 2022.

Inadequate quarterback play likely held him back. He’s played with eight QBs in Denver. Russell Wilson posted a 36.7 QBR this season, well below the league average.

The Cowboys ranked 18th in receiving yards in 2022, and only one WR tallied more than 50 receptions (CeeDee Lamb). Sutton’s size would help Dallas improve its downfield passing attack. He’s 6-foot-4, taller than any WR on the depth chart.

Denver won’t get a first-round pick for Sutton since he’s not on the same tier as Lamb, but it could get a second-rounder (No. 58 overall), allowing them to draft a higher-rated prospect that adds depth.

Overall, it’s a fair move, allowing both teams to address important needs immediately.
