Brits subscribe to four separate monthly services – spending nearly £500 a year

The typical adult is currently signed up to four separate monthly subscription services – setting them back almost £500 a year, a study has found.

TV or film streaming services (26%), and music platforms (14%) are the most popular subscriptions for Brits – costing £300 a year, and £200 a year, respectively.

And one in ten pay for gaming memberships, while 5% splash out on books, audiobooks – and even house plant subscriptions.

Other niche hobbies that Brits will part with cash over include calligraphy, candles, and even a Corgi model toy car subscription.

The survey of 2,000 adults found that 77% are comfortable with how much they pay monthly for their subscriptions.

But nearly half (45%) have signed up to a plan using an introductory offer, with the intention of cancelling as soon as it ends – only for 63% of those to forget to cancel.

This has set them back an extra £30 by the time they have realised their blunder, the study found.
