People Are Sharing The Most Absurd Reasons They’ve Heard People Give For Why They Hate Certain Movies, And I’m Both Confused And Amused

You can’t be talked into liking a movie, no matter how much your friends/families/local film critics may try to sway your opinions. But while some of the reasons for your distaste may be common complaints — awkward dialogue, weak performances, distractingly terrible wigs — others may be a touch more…unique. And there were plenty of these unique, verging on utterly absurd, explanations submitted when redditor u/SkyOfFallingWater asked the folks of r/movies for “the most ridiculous reason you’ve seen for disliking a movie.” Here are 19 of ’em, ranging from “too much chrome” to “not enough horses.”

Responses have been edited for length and/or clarity.

4. “My sister refused to watch The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe because according to her, it promoted paganism and witchcraft and was anti-Christian. You know, The Chronicles of Narnia, one of the most blunt biblical allegories ever written. By C.S. Lewis, a devout Christian.”

5. “When Mad Max: Fury Road came out, I was talking to a friend who really disliked it. He was shocked when he said I loved it. I asked what he didn’t like about it and he said, ‘Where did they get all the chrome from?'”

7. “My mother at this point in her life refuses to watch any movie that doesn’t have either horses or a cooking montage in it. I convinced her to see The Last Jedi because of the horse-like creatures at the casino planet and the new Avatar because of the same. She hated them both because they weren’t ‘horse-y enough.’ Her favorite movies right now are Chef and Nope.”

As a lover of folk music, I was highly disappointed. Yes, I am aware that this is a very petty reason.”

18. “My friend told me she HATED Jojo Rabbit and when I asked why she said the ‘weird angle everything was shot at and the laugh track that didn’t match the rest of the audio’ were too distracting. … On further investigation it turned out she had watched a shitty bootleg version her dad downloaded.”
