I think if we had mood lighting and it was a serious sex scene, then it might get awkward. But it’s just so goofy that I don’t think he cares.”

When asked about the scenes, Judd said, “I don’t mind it because I know they don’t enjoy it. So in a way it’s like torturing people by forcing them to make out.”

6. Angelina Jolie cast Brad Pitt in her movie By The Sea, where they played a married couple and had a few intimate scenes together. She said the only way to make the scenes feel more comfortable was to “talk about the absurdity of it.”

“It’s the strangest thing in the world to be lying naked in a bathtub with an iPad that’s showing you the shot outside, while your husband is at the door and you’re directing him to come in and make love to you,” she explained. “Love scenes are strange anyway, but when you’re doing a love scene with a person that you really have sex with? The only way to get through it was for us to all talk about the absurdity of it and make sure no one was feeling awkward.”

She added, “I couldn’t get out of the bathtub to get to the monitor because the director is naked. We’re artists and want to be free, but Brad — it’s his wife. He was on towel duty. He’d hold the towel over me.”

And Stephen added, “I distinctly remember that scene. Joe and I are very close and I just said to him to go for it, man, don’t feel like you need to worry about me, and Anna and I had a chat about it.”

“Once [you’ve] been directed in these circumstances, with a naked bloodied man and having wild sex with someone else, nothing’s weird anymore,” she explained.

It’s a strange thing when there’s so much hype about it. You are like, ‘God, I hope this lives up to it.'”
