Ebanie Bridges hammers ‘scared’ Anthony Joshua and says Tyson Fury would ‘destroy’ him
Anthony Joshua 'would be destroyed' by Tyson Fury if the pair were to fight, despite the former's winning return to the ring on Saturday.
Or at least that's the assertion made by IBF female bantamweight champion Ebanie Bridges, who was not impressed by AJ's uncertainty against Jermaine Franklin. Joshua, 33, scored a unanimous-decision victory over Franklin after eight months out of boxing, though the performance didn't boost Bridges' perception of his skills.
From an outsider's perspective, Joshua's return to the win column takes him one step closer to finally agreeing a bout against British rival Fury after his scheduled clash with Oleksandr Usyk fell apart. However, Bridges has given a damning description of Joshua's chances against the WBC titleholder based on his latest display.

“I think if Franklin was a better fighter and a bit of a bully, he could have really put AJ off," she told talkSPORT. “Fury would destroy him, with his strength, power and spite. Even ‘Juggernaught’ Joe Joyce. Joe Joyce, we all know he’s a bit stiff and robotic a little bit, but he’s tough and can hit hard and will keep walking forward. Even [Derek] Chisora.
“I just feel like he looks a little bit lost on cruise control, and he won’t beat Fury or Deontay [Wilder] like that. Even Dillian Whyte. He is just gonna go in there and make hell. You see, these fighters aren’t scared to get hit, they are not scared to take some to give some.”

The assessment makes for tough reading from Joshua's perspective and would perhaps be tough to swallow after a victorious return to action given his time away. The Olympic gold medal-winner had an extended break from fighting after losing his IBF, WBO, IBO and WBA (Super) titles to Usyk in back-to-back bouts, falling far outside the picture for any immediate title matchups.
A fixture against 'The Gypsy King' could provide just that, however, with Joshua recently remarking he's "f*****g fired [up]" to make that fight happen. The timing could be perfect considering both heavyweight stars are currently without scheduled opponents, not to mention time is running out as they each enter their mid-thirties.
Bridges isn't the only one who's cast doubt over Joshua's tenacity of late, with Whyte commenting his compatriot has "lost all his aggression and killer instincts." 'The Body Snatcher' went so far as to suggest Joshua "should stop" boxing if the desire is no longer there, though he did praise his peer's technical ability.
Wilder's long-term coach, Malik Scott, aired similar grievances with Joshua's performance at the O2 Arena, describing his display as "a little bit gun-shy. "Ever since that [loss to Ruiz], he has been overthinking in the ring," said Scott. "For someone that big, someone that strong, that can be that imposing on his opponent, that is not a good thing."
