Get to Know ‘Saturdays’ Star Tim Johnson Jr with 10 Fun Facts (Exclusive)
Tim Johnson Jr is one of the stars of Disney Channel’s newest series Saturdays!
The actor plays Derek, aka D-Rok, in the comedy, which centers around 14-year-old Paris Johnson and her best friends, Simone and Ari, who hone their roller skating skills on the cool parquet floor of Saturdays, a local skating rink in Chicago. Together they form the We-B-Girlz skate crew and are determined to show and prove they have the hottest skate routines on the planet!

Derek is best friends with Paris’ older brother London, and the two hang out at the skating rink.
“Derek’s the type of character, he’s going to be over the house being like, ‘Hey, what’s up y’all? Look, what we watching? Oh, your mom made some food? Okay,'” Tim told PopCulture of his character. “So it’s cool to have two brothers that have a dream and similar goal to blow up within their music and just to have each other’s back with everything. So yeah, it was fun.”
JJJ recently caught up with Tim and learned 10 Fun Facts about him. Check out what he shared with us below!
- 1. My first time performing ever was in kindergarten at J.H Moore (Philadelphia) and we did an Irish dance performance for St Patrick’s day. I still love dancing and my go to move is the “pin drop.”
- 2. When I was 10 I moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to play Young Simba in the musical Disney The Lion King at the Mandalay Bay for about 2 years.
- 3. My brother Israel Johnson plays Noah on the Disney Channel series Bunk’d. We’re both Disney kids haha!
- 4. My favorite cereal of ALL TIME is Honey Nut Cheerios!
- 5. I had the chance to sing with Stevie Wonder and Keith John at his birthday party. Was one of the coolest moments ever!
- 6. I produce music with my dad Tim Johnson Sr. It’s a blessing to be able to create and do something you love to do with someone you admire. And I have music coming out soon!
- 7. I grew up in a very musical family. My parents found out I could sing when I was 6 years old when we were going to a restaurant I made up a song.
- 8. One of my favorite desserts is called Italian Custard but in Philly, we call it “Water Ice”. It’s like a snow cone, but way better. You can put fruit peels in it and add whatever type of custard on top. It’s so good!
- 9. I play guitar, piano, drums, bass and a little bit of banjo. I picked up the banjo because the body reminded me of a snare. I wanted to try playing chords while hitting the body of the banjo to create a cool beat.
- 10. The most important thing out of this life for me to do, show love to people. “Be a light” is something my parents always told me. Whether it’s in having positive conversations, dancing with friends, performing my music or acting in great projects like Saturdays. I just want to bring joy to people’s lives.
