Broadway’s ‘Phantom’ Closes This Weekend, But Andrew Lloyd Webber Teases It Might Be Back Very Soon

The Phantom of the Opera will be closing on Broadway this weekend after a record-breaking 35-year run and composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has teased that the show may be back sooner than you’d think.

The final performance will be taking place on Sunday, April 16. The show was originally set to close in February, but it received a two-month extension due to ticket demand. For the past few months, it has been the highest-grossing show on Broadway.

During a chat with NY1, Andrew was asked about what will be going through his mind when the famous chandelier falls on Broadway for the last time.

“Well, I should be very, very sad. I mean, you know, I’ve even wondered whether or not I could actually face going to the final performance, to be frank,” he said. “And I might not. But what’s really sad about it is it’s not necessary. It could easily, easily run on now, but, again, it’s not my decision. I will also be very conscious if I do go and that chandelier will fall for the last time in the middle of the, well, the end of the first act, that it will rise again somewhere in New York–much sooner than people might think.”

Lloyd Webber’s latest show has been receiving negative reviews, but one famous star is putting a spin on the bad press.
