Insider explains why Packers don’t need ‘Godfather’ offer for Aaron Rodgers
One would think the Green Bay Packers are asking the New York Jets — or any other interested franchise — for a trade haul so big in return for Aaron Rodgers that it would make a pirate blush.
At least according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, though, that may not necessarily be the case. Garafolo believes that the Packers are simply trying to get a fair deal for the four-time MVP. They’re not trying to stick up Jets owner Woody Johnson or anyone else who could get involved. Per Garafolo, the Packers are just ready to move on and get to the Jordan Love-era.

“The fact that the Packers are letting Aaron Rodgers talk to other teams pretty much tells ya that they’re OK with him moving on. It’s not a situation like, ‘Well, you’re going to have to give us an offer we can’t refuse,'” Garafolo explained on the NFL Network. “No, it’s going to be something [like], ‘Let’s get as fair of compensation as we can to just move on and turn this thing over to Jordan Love in Green Bay.'”
Garafolo went on to say that the Jets have already had communication with the Packers regarding a potential trade for Rodgers, and he doesn’t believe there will be any roadblocks if the future Hall of Fame quarterback does indeed decide he wants to play in New York.
Either way, and whether or not a trade between the Packers and Jets actually goes down, it is interesting to hear that the sentiment in Green Bay is apparently one of a willingness to move on and turn the page to Love. Garafolo isn’t close to the first person to relay those feelings as well, so if there’s that much smoke, there’s absolutely some fire behind those reports.
Still, as mentioned above, one would think Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst is still going to do his best to at least get the Jets’ No. 13 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft as part of the compensation for Rodgers — if not more. If that were to be the case, the Pack would have picks No. 13 and No. 15 and could really rebuild the war chest of young talent around Love, the former No. 26 overall pick.
