There's not long to go until the tapes go up for the 175th annual running of the Grand National.

First run in 1839, the Grand National is one of the jewels in the British sporting crown and attracts interest from the UK and across the world. Taking place at the iconic Aintree racecourse in Liverpool, the race is run over an official distance of four miles and two and a half furlongs, with horses jumping 30 fences over two laps.

Many fences have their own specific names, including The Chair, Valentine's and Becher's Brook, which is perhaps the most famous. With the race almost upon us, Daily Star Sport take a look at everything you need to know ahead of the 2023 Grand National, including the all important runners.

When is the 2023 Grand National?

Good question. The 2023 Grand National takes place on Saturday April 15th. The race will start at 5:15pm BST, allowing football fans up and down the country to pile into pubs and cheer on their picks in the race.

The Grand National used to be run earlier on in the afternoon but was moved back to a later start time in 2016. It is the sixth race on the card on the third day of the Grand National meeting, which begins on Saturday at 1:45pm with the Maghull Novices' Chase.

What TV channel is the 2023 Grand National on?

The Grand National will be broadcast live on ITV1. Anyone wishing to watch the Grand National can also do so using the broadcaster's streaming service, ITVX.

Anyone who is unable to watch the race live can listen to the Grand National on BBC Radio 5 Live. BBC radio commentary can also be found via the BBC Sports website, where there will be live updates.
