Truth behind Liam Payne vs Tommy Fury and where the pair will actually face-off

Fans hoping for a Liam Payne and Tommy Fury boxing match have been left disappointed, with the duo set to face off at Soccer Aid instead.

Speculation had been rife that the British pair would go toe-to-toe in the squared circle after former One Direction heartthrob Payne shared a mocked up fight poster of himself and Fury.

But their hotly-anticipated celeb dust-up is no more after it was revealed on Thursday morning that the pair will line up against each other in Soccer Aid, rather than the boxing ring.

Fury confirmed he will play for the World XI in the fundraising match, which takes place at Old Trafford on June 11. He said: "I'm taking off my boxing gloves and lacing up my football boots. The big match is taking place at Old Trafford, Manchester. I'll see you there."

Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Payne added: "Hey, GMB. After losing last year, I had to come back for Soccer Aid for UNICEF and have one more crack at winning that trophy."

Payne captained England in last year's Soccer Aid match at the London Stadium, which saw the World XI win 4-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time.

However, this time around the home team will be skippered by Lionesses legend and Queen of the I'm A Celeb jungle Jill Scott, who is set to become the first female player to wear the armband for England.

Singing star Payne added: "I've handed over my captain's armband to Jill Scott. Because I'm not going to mess with the Lioness."
