Actor Wes Chatham is the latest famous face joining a galaxy far, far away.

Earlier this week, the annual Star Wars Celebration event wrapped up in London. The event, which took place from April 7 through April 10 this year, teased many new cast members for the “Star Wars” series “Ahsoka.”

Unfortunately, fans didn’t get to see Wes Chatham, who starred in Amazon’s long-running sci-fi series “The Expanse,” take the stage, as news of his casting didn’t break until Wednesday, April 12.

On Wednesday, April 10, Deadline was the first to report that Wes Chatham, who played Castor in the final two films of “The Hunger Games” film franchise, has been cast in the upcoming Disney+ series “Ahsoka,” which is scheduled to hit the streaming service in August 2023.

The “Tenet” actor is reported to play the right-hand man to Grand Admiral Thrawn. Actor Lars Mikkelsen, who voiced Thrawn in the animated series, will return to bring the character into live-action.

Mikkelsen’s casting was announced at Star Wars Celebration on Saturday, along with the news that “Doctor Who” star David Tennant would reprise his role as the droid character Huyang. Tennant previously voiced the character in the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” first appearing in the episode titled “A Test of Strength,” which was the seventh episode in season 5.

The “Ahsoka” series will also feature the return of Rosario Dawson, who first brought the character of Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano to life in “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.” Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) will be making their first jump into live-action after first appearing in “Rebels.”

Hayden Christensen, who recently reprised his role as Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker for the limited series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” is also rumored to appear in this new series. Actor Ray Stevenson, who previously voiced Gar Saxon in “Star Wars Rebels” has also been cast as a new character, Baylon.

“Ahsoka” was written by Dave Filoni and will be executive produced by both Filoni and “The Mandalorian” showrunner Jon Favreau. The series will also feature a rotating line-up of directors, including Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Patel, and Rick Famuyiwa.

Although footage for other Star Wars series, including “The Acolyte,” “Skeleton Crew,” and season 2 of “Andor” were only shown to live audiences at Star Wars Celebration, the first look at “Ahsoka” was also shared on social media on Friday, April 7.

On Saturday morning, star Rosario Dawson told the live audience gathered for the “Ahsoka” panel that she credits Ahsoka’s voice actress, Ashley Eckstein, for bringing the character from where fans first met her in “The Clone Wars” all the way up to “Rebels.”

“One of the beautiful things about watching [Ahsoka’s] journey is that even when she was so young, she was fearless,” Dawson said. She also could not praise her work in a galaxy far, far away enough, saying, “We are living and breathing Star Wars on a regular basis and we just really truly love it… It’s not just a job. It’s joy.”

She was joined on stage by both Natasha Liu Bordizzo and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, as well as the loveable droid Chopper. Winstead, who is married to “Obi-Wan Kenobi” actor Ewan McGregor, talked about bringing Hera Syndulla into live-action, saying, “There’s such a rich history we’ve been able to see on Rebels… I felt honored to be playing someone like that and try to rise to her level.”

Actress Diana Lee Inosanto also shared more about her new character, Morgan Elsbeth, saying that “She absolutely is very loyal to Grand Admiral Thrawn.” They revealed that the battle between Ahsoka and Morgan Elsbeth actually took more than 17 hours to film. The battle must be important to the series as a whole, as they even noted that “Star Wars” creator George Lucas was on set for the scene.

“Ahsoka” is scheduled to hit Disney+ in August 2023.
