Does The Third Sister Become The Grand Inquisitor?

Warning: Spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi episodes 1-3.

Although the fates of many characters in Obi-Wan Kenobi are already known due to Star Wars: A New Hope, what the future holds for the Third Sister, Reva, is still in question. Set 10 years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi focuses on the activities of the former Jedi Master while in exile. Hiding on Tatooine, Obi-Wan is meant to be watching over a young Luke Skywalker. However, this mission is complicated by the kidnapping of Leia Organa and a group of Jedi-hunting Inquisitors searching for him.

In particular, Reva, currently the lowest ranking Inquisitor, is desperate to find Obi-Wan to improve her station. To do this, she arranged Leia’s kidnapping to draw Obi-Wan out of hiding. In addition, she killed the Grand Inquisitor, the leader of the Inquisitorius, and blamed Obi-Wan for the attack – all before Darth Vader promised to make Reva the next Grand Inquisitor if she catches Obi-Wan in reward for her efforts.

However, it is unlikely that the Third Sister will succeed in her goal. Although only three out of six of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s episodes have been released so far, it is already possible to predict Reva’s fate. The Inquisitors were initially added to Star Wars canon through the animated show Star Wars Rebels. Set four years after Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars Rebels included the Inquisitors as major antagonists during the first two seasons. Despite this, the Third Sister was never mentioned in Star Wars Rebels or any other Star Wars project set after Obi-Wan Kenobi, hinting that she never became the Grand Inquisitor. Based on previously established Star Wars canon, both in Star Wars Rebels and other works, Reva will not only fail to achieve her goal but meet her end during Obi-Wan Kenobi.

All of the Inquisitors played significant roles in Star Wars Rebels, including the Grand Inquisitor. Throughout Star Wars Rebels season 1, the Grand Inquisitor hunted down Kanan Jarrus, a Padawan who survived Order 66, and his new Padawan, Ezra Bridger. Ultimately, the Grand Inquisitor fell to his death after losing a duel with Kanan. Based on this outcome, Obi-Wan Kenobi seems to directly contradict Star Wars canon by showing Reva kill the Grand Inquisitor. However, head writer Joby Harold has already stated that Obi-Wan Kenobi will not disrupt canon with the Grand Inquisitor’s death. This suggests that the Grand Inquisitor may have survived the Third Sister’s attack and could return to reclaim his position. If he did so, this would not only make the role unavailable to Reva but allow him to expose Reva for betraying him. Furthermore, if Reva’s deception was revealed, it would be impossible for her to become Grand Inquisitor and would probably lead to harsh punishment.

In addition, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has already hinted that the Third Sister will not survive Obi-Wan Kenobi. Similar to Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi: Fallen Order featured a Jedi Padawan, Cal Kestis, evading capture by Inquisitors. The Star Wars video game even included an ambitious Inquisitor called Second Sister, who wanted to catch Cal to win Emperor Palpatine’s approval. When Cal defeated the Second Sister in a lightsaber duel, though, Darth Vader executed her. Given that Obi-Wan is still alive and back on Tatooine at the beginning of Star Wars: A New Hope, Reva must ultimately fail her mission in Obi-Wan Kenobi. Based on the Second Sister’s fate, Darth Vader will most likely kill Reva for her failure. If the Third Sister dies during Obi-Wan Kenobi, she will never get to opportunity to become the Grand Inquisitor, instead allowing the original Grand Inquisitor to easily step back into his role.
