Aaron Rodgers saga is reminding fans and analysts of Brett Favre
Aaron Rodgers saga is reminding fans and analysts of Brett Favre
Aaron Rodgers, it seems, is likely going to be the starting quarterback of the New York Jets next season.
Throughout this entire process, fans and analysts have been comparing the situation between the Packers, Rodgers, and the Jets to the one involving Brett Favre 15 years ago, and rightly so—there are many similarities. However, Wisconsin Badgers basketball legend Brian Butch discussed a similarity that hadn’t been addressed yet on the show Nine to Noon on 97.3 The Game.
Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer Gilbert Brown has said on multiple occasions that quarterbacks are “pretty boys” who tend to be on the “diva” end of things. Butch discussed how that particular character trait is a MAJOR similarity when comparing the Rodgers’ situation to the Favre one:
“I think Aaron Rodgers loves the drama. The reason that a lot people, myself included, I’ll speak for me, think that this has been more like Brett Favre is because you have two people that like the drama. They like the attention. Aaron Rodgers likes the attention. I think that’s true. Would you agree with that?”
Tim Scott, who was filling in for Packers Hall of Famer John Kuhn, responded:
“Yes, I’ll agree with you. But I’m also going to say ‘What does it matter?’ Because he won. What does it matter. And I mean, I’m willing to look past things when it comes to athletes outside of things like breaking the law and things like that. But all the things that he said or did never impacted his play on the field. It didn’t!
“Did he tear up the locker room? Nope.”
The show continues with the two hosts going back and forth, debating whether or not Rodgers really did do damage to the locker room. There is even some debate on whether or not the Packers would be better off with a quarterback with a demeanor more like that of Kirk Cousins than of Rodgers.
You can listen to the whole show using the link above. It also includes wonderful segments on the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team and how fans view the program vs. how they should view the program.
