You have to hand it to Shawn Levy – the guy is busy. In recent years, he’s directed Free Guy and The Adam Project, plus he’s gearing up to make Deadpool 3. All that, and he’s still an active member of the Stranger Things team, not just as an executive producer on the show but a regular director too. Somehow, in among all those things, he’s also found time to adapt Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer-winning war novel All The Light We Cannot See, directing all four episodes of an impending Netflix miniseries penned by Steven Knight – with a cast including Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie. Check out the teaser trailer here:

The series is set across World War II, primarily focusing on Aria Mia Liberty’s Marie-Laure LeBlanc, a blind French teenager seeking refuge in her uncle’s house; and Louis Hofmann’s Werner Pfennig, a German youngster drawn into the army after being accepted into military school for his radio technology skills. Ruffalo plays Marie-Laure’s father Daniel, with a magnificently-bearded Hugh Laurie has her great-uncle Etienne. There’s no dialogue in this teaser, but it’s certainly evocative – promising a grand, sweeping scope, moving between battlefields, aerial action, and Nazi-occupied towns. Through it all, the connection between Marie-Laure and Werner is set to anchor the story.

The limited series is due to hit Netflix on 2 November. Stay tuned to see if it lives up to the streaming service’s last wartime hit, All Quiet On The Western Front.
