Russell Crowe has been one of the biggest faces in Hollywood since his role in Gladiator catapulted him to fame, so it probably comes as no surprise that the New Zealand-born actor now gets paid handsomely for his work.

The 59-year-old's latest blockbuster, The Pope's Exorcist, is no exception — with Crowe saying he was "amply taken care of" financially for his role as Vatican exorcist Father Gabrielle Amorth in the thriller.

The film has already turned over $36million in profit since it was released in cinemas earlier this month and Crowe, who is reported to have a net worth of around $120million, revealed he gets a good chunk of the money.

In an X-rated response to just how "filthy rich" he is, the actor revealed his pay packet for the successful film was so big he compared it to "group sex" and an "orgy".

She probed: “Do you get a portion of profits? Did you just get a big chunk? Is it incentive driven? How filthy are you now, rich-wise?”

Hinting at his big salary, Crowe responded: "From a financial perspective, if you want specifics, I was amply taken care of, and if you want more specifics on the ongoing – there’s a kiss at every turn".

He added: "I’ve been in the business for a long time, and one of the things that I've always made sure of is because I know the type of commitment I give to something, I like to get paid to work."

Pressing the actor for more details, the host asked Crowe whether the "kiss at every turn" was a "peck on the cheek" or an “open mouth snog”.

"Oh my lord it's not like that at all because there are other people you share it with," Crowe laughed.

But responding to the cheeky question with a crude answer of his own, he said: “It’s more like group sex rather than one peck,” adding: “It’s Hollywood, of course it’s an orgy.”

The Pope's Exorcist is inspired by the true story of Father Gabrielle Amorth, who was the Vatican's leading exorcist.

Before his death in 2016, Amorth claimed to have performed over 60,000 exorcisms.
