Floyd Mayweather tells fans real amount he paid for cap that ‘cost one million dollars’

Floyd Mayweather loves splashing the cash, but spending $1million dollars on a cap is wide of the mark, even for him.

That was the rumour that began circling round when he uploaded a photograph of him wearing a black TMT snapback encrusted with diamonds. He sported the jaw-dropping head piece ringside for Gervonta Davis’ ruthless seventh round knockout victory over Ryan Garcia in Las Vegas.

As are a lot of things connected with the boxing great, who retired from professional competition with a perfect 50-0 record, it was ostentatious, in your face, and, arguably, tasteless. But while Mayweather is very proud of his lifestyle, even he felt he had to come out and clarify the rumours about his hat.

After the rumours about his hat costing $1m (around £803,000) came to his attention, Mayweather took to his social media account to reveal the real price of his hat.

“I don’t know who started the rumour that my hat was a million dollars,” he began on his Instagram story. “But it was 30K” – a lot more sensible then. Fortunately for him, he will be able to afford many more of those hats over the next few months.

It was recently announced he will take on ex-MMA star and professional boxer John Gotti III. While Gotti is a professional boxer with a 2-0 record, the bout will be another exhibition bout.

Mayweather has been parading himself in numerous exhibition bouts ever since his retirement. He has already fought Logan Paul, British YouTuber Deji, and most recently fought former Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers at the O2 Arena – it was his first ever fight in the United Kingdom.

Of course, Mayweather has frequently been criticised for arranging these exhibition bouts, which quite often see him dancing with ring girls and almost comically toying with visibly inferior and inexperienced fighters. However, he does not care one jot what other people think.

"A lot of time people say, 'Oh, Floyd have to do exhibitions,” Mayweather said before his fight against Deji. “My philosophy is never stop getting it (money). Currency over legacy. Currency over legacy. Believe me, if I don't ever do another exhibition in my life, I can live a great life."
