Street Fighter May Be Directed By Team Behind Horror Movie Talk To Me
A Street Fighter movie is in the works at Warcraft and Detective Pikachu film studio Legendary, and it looks like the movie has found its directing team.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Australian filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou, who are twins, are set to direct the Street Fighter movie. They previously directed the upcoming A24 horror film Talk to Me. The Australian movie makers who got their start with a YouTube channel called RackaRacka are said to be in “final negotiations” for Street Fighter.
According to the report, there is a “short list” of writers being looked at for Street Fighter, and conversations with those people–whoever they may be–are said to be underway.
Legendary and Capcom are working together to produce the Street Fighter film, but there is no word yet on a cast, story, or release date.
Danny and Michael Philippou are getting a rich deal for Street Fighter, it seems, as THR said the brothers are receiving a “low- to mid-seven-figure deal.”
Street Fighter has been adapted for the screen multiple times, perhaps most famously with the 1994 film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Colonel Guile; Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li; and Raul Julia as General Bison.
The first Street Fighter installment launched in arcades in 1987, with its sequel serving as one of the most important fighting games of all time. Since then, numerous entries have released, with the most recent mainline installment, Street Fighter V, launching in 2016. Street Fighter focuses on competitive battles, with a slew of characters to choose from including Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Cammy, and Guile.
Street Fighter 6 is planed for release on June 2, 2023, for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and arcade.
