In the episode, “Daddy Was a Bank Robber,” an old friend returns with a shocking surprise for everyone, and Cordell (Jared Padalecki) is forced to come to terms with the decisions he’s made and how it’s affected the ones he loves most. In the aftermath of the devastation caused by Grey Flag, Trey’s (Jeff Pierre) left feeling like an outsider, but a new case will force he and Cassie (Ashley Reyes) to overcome their issues.

Saylor plays Hoyt’s daughter Sadie, who his loved ones just learn exists, and according to TVLine, she “definitely takes after her good-hearted but scoundrel-ish father.” While Hoyt didn’t get to meet her, Cordell and Gerie find catharsis through her.

“I think it was a great way to kind of infuse that same energy into the show,” Hoyt actor Matt Barr told TVLine about his character’s daughter. “And you can tell that Cordell is still struggling with Hoyt’s death, sort of what that means to him… So I think by introducing Sadie, that’s going to help Cordell along with his own self-discovery and kind of coming to terms with Hoyt’s death.”

Matt also expressed he’s definitely a but disappointed he doesn’t get to explore that father-daughter dynamic since his character is no longer alive, after dying in season one.

“Yeah, ’cause she’s so badass! This actress, Saylor Bell, I walked on set and I was like, ‘Hey, would you like some advice on Hoyt?’ She goes, ‘No, I got this.’ [Laughs] I’m like, ‘Oh, my God. I’m gonna start taking lessons from her.’ So yeah, I would have loved that,” he shared. “I can imagine the father Hoyt would have been had he known because he was so all heart. I think knowing he had a daughter would have definitely given him a sense of purpose that he was always kind of searching for.”

Be sure to to tune in to the all-new episode of Walker TONIGHT (April 27) at 8pm ET/PT on The CW.

Saylor is also set to return to High School Musical: The Musical: The Series later this year for the Disney+ series’ fourth season.
