Goldsberry shared a photo of an encounter she had with the singer and activist.

“Lamenting the passing of #HarryBelafonte this morning,” the “Hamilton” actress writes in her tribute. “I said out loud- I wish there was a moment I first met him… I was in a restaurant with my newborn son,” she continued.

“Mr. Belafonte walked in, saw my son, and took it upon himself to bless him. He didn’t know me, my son, or my story. He didn’t know the miracle that had finally given this child to me. But he understood his legacy,” Goldsberry went on. “He walked through the world, in my opinion, mindful of passing it down. I imagine he saw all little black boys as miracles worthy of a hand blessed on their heads.”

“Thank you @damian_woetzel for reaching out to me this morning with this pic,” Goldsberry explained. “I had completely forgotten that he had come to see @Hamiltonmusical when it opened at the public theater. I’m so grateful for his blessing and his legacy. May we see the world as you did, Mr. Belafonte… filled with opportunities to bless each other. Rest in peace,” Goldsberry concluded in her post.

Belafonte’s musical legacy was cemented early on in his career. According to the New York Times, the LP containing two of his most well-known songs was “said to be the first album by a single artist to sell more than a million copies.”
