The ‘American League batting champions’ quiz

The Houston Astros’ hopes for back-to-back World Series wins took a considerable blow on Saturday.

During Venezuela’s World Baseball Classic matchup against the United States, Jose Altuve, the former MVP and the heart and soul of the Astros lineup, took a pitch from Daniel Bard off of his hand. The former AL MVP went down in immediate pain, and following the game, early reports indicated that the three-time AL batting champion fractured his thumb and would be out for an extended period of time. With Opening Day less than two weeks away, it’s devastating news for both Altuve and the ‘Stros, who will now likely be without their star second baseman for at least a few weeks. It’s certainly not the start that Houston was hoping for to kick off its second World Series defense.

Which brings us to today’s quiz of the day. Altuve has been a hitting machine since making his MLB debut, as witnessed by his aforementioned batting titles. So with that in mind, how many American League batting champions since 1993 can you name in five minutes?

Good luck!
