Jadon Sancho ‘tells Bruno Fernandes to stop moaning’ in on-pitch Man Utd rant

Bruno Fernandes has proved relentless in demanding the highest standards of his Manchester United team-mates since arriving at the club in January 2020.

And those very demands resulted in an early lashing out from team-mate Jadon Sancho early on in Sunday's Premier League showdown against Aston Villa. Unai Emery's side travelled to Old Trafford with a chance to move within three points of the Red Devils in fourth, albeit having played two games more.

So Fernandes was displeased to see Sancho wasting possession when an attempted backheel pass failed to find its target just 16 minutes into the match. And United's skipper made his feelings clear on the matter, shouting at the England winger for not picking a better option, one of which was him.

Sancho clearly disagreed with his colleague's lack of candour, however, and stood his ground in the hopes of a more positive resolution. The former Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund starlet was caught on camera telling his Portuguese companion to "stop moaning" several times in quick succession.

As if the words didn't get the message across in the Theatre of Dreams, Sancho pointed a finger towards Fernandes in a warning manner. The incident had a mixed reaction online, with many identifying the behaviour as standard for elite athletes while others concurred Fernandes was out of order.

"Anyone highlighting the Jadon Sancho comment to Bruno Fernandes has obviously never played sport at any real level," tweeted one miffed fan in an attempt to downplay the disagreement. "This stuff literally happens in every single game with every single team?"

Other supporters fell in with that line of thinking, but some suggested the skipper could have taken a different approach. "Love Bruno but being captain doesn’t mean you have to moan and complain about every ball," commented another supporter. "It’s a very negative approach."

As fate would have it, Fernandes was in the right place at the right time to give United the lead not long before the break at Old Trafford. Emiliano Martinez could only palm Marcus Rashford's shot into the path of the Portuguese, who stole a vital lead from the Villans.

Ten Hag promoted his No. 8 into the captain's role in light of Harry Maguire's demotion from the starting XI for the vast majority of the campaign so far. Sancho, meanwhile, has played a more prominent role under Ten Hag but still appears to be lacking some of the confidence he once exhibited so regularly in Dortmund.
