Karl Lagerfeld, The Controversial Designer Honored By This Year’s Met Gala Theme, Probably Wouldn’t Have Liked These 11 Amazing Looks

The theme of last night’s Met Gala — “In honor of Karl” — honored late designer Karl Lagerfeld. It was considered a controversial choice because of the many cruel comments he made during his lifetime.

On Twitter, viewers have been celebrating celebs who showed up in looks that Lagerfeld would’ve likely hated.

Here are 11 Met Gala looks that Karl Lagerfeld would’ve likely hated (and why):

Lagerfeld did not like it when people wore pink.

According to fashion writer Patrick Mauriès’s book, The World According to Karl, he once said, “Think pink. But don’t wear it.”

2. Quannah Chasinghorse in pretty pink Prabal Gurung

Karl Lagerfeld was a fatphobic, sexist and racist butthole that hated pink. Quannah Chasinghorse attending the Met in pink, in a gown and style that Karl Lagerfeld would have hated, and in all her Indigenous glory is absolutely the most beautiful way to “honor” an unhonorable man https://t.co/wLuH41CY3C

Lagerfeld was also notoriously anti-fat.

In 2009, he told Focus magazine, “No one wants to see curvy women.”

Appearing on a French TV show in 2013, he said, “The hole in social security, it’s also [due to] all the diseases caught by people who are too fat.”

Additionally, when he was called out for saying that Adele was “a little too fat,” he released a statement clarifying that “what [he] said was in relation to Lana Del Rey.”

He also didn’t care for other men’s thoughts on style, telling the New York Times, “I’m not crazy to discuss fashion with men. I couldn’t care less about their opinion.”

11. Pedro Pascal in Valentino
