Writer’s Strike Continues, Stops At Disney Studios In LA

The writer’s strike is well into another day, and more celebs support the people who help make their shows watchable.

Disney On The Agenda

The writer’s strike continued today, with the rally going down to Disney Studios. The writers held signs and chanted, “Fists Up, Pens Down, LA is a Union Town.” More actors joined in the walk to support the writers and their demands.

Actress Kristen Schaal and actor Rich Blomquist stopped to speak with Deadline, praising writers for giving them some of the funniest lines they’ve had. “Writers deserve fair wages,” they yelled over supporting honks from cars driving by.

“Most of the funniest scenes I’ve said have been written by a writer that gets me,” she says of the writer’s ability to spin a story. “Not everybody can write. Writing is tough, and we need to protect that, to value that,” says Schaal.

Adam Conover tweeted that he will be out there in a few moments with his fellow writers today. “In ONE HOUR, I’ll be on the picket line with Hasan for an irl stream as the #WritersStrike continues. Come cheer us on, and learn something about this historic action!”

Drew Barrymore Is Dropping Gigs

Up until about an hour ago, MTV promoted their awards show heavily. Still, Drew Barrymore dropped out of hosting the MTV Movie and TV Awards, so that’s another event that will look a little different if it continues.

“I have listened to the writers, and to truly respect them, I will pivot from hosting the MTV Movie and TV Awards live in solidarity with the strike,” Barrymore said. She thanked MTV for the opportunity, but it won’t happen this year.

The actress isn’t the only one realizing that the crap is hitting the fan. Saturday Night Live fans recently became privy to the fact that the sketch comedy show was set to have Kieran Culkin and Jennifer Coolidge as future hosts, and that’s another thing that will either be pushed back or canceled altogether.

The musical guest for Coolidge would have been the Foo Fighters, and Culkin would host alongside musical guest Labrinth, who just rocked Coachella with Zendaya. Are we missing out on another potential Zendaya collab because writers aren’t being taken seriously?

TV & Film Fans Are Fed Up Already

Twitter

Upset followers are taking to social media to stand in solidarity with writers now that ty realize ty are missing out on some potentially great TV and movie moments. “Omg, pay and protect writers more to have this blessed union. ? #WritersStrike #SNL” wrote one follower.

“An emotional week of TV. #FireflyLane showcases soulmates as friends to the last breath, #WorkingMoms shows how sometimes friends have to spend time apart to be better & then #AMillionLittleThings shows how friends make a great family! #paythewriters #WritersStrike,” wrote one follower who appreciates a well-written show.

Actors like Dermot Mulroney were in the streets today as well. He stands with the writers and says, “You can hardly make a living anymore [in the entertainment industry]…”

More updates are coming soon.
