Lionel Richie distracts Coronation Concert viewers as fans say he ‘sounds different’

BBC One viewers watching the Coronation Concert were eft confused over US singer Lionel Richie's performance as he opened his set with a rendition of 'Easy Like Sunday Morning'.

Fans watching the historic event on Sunday (May 7) were quick to point out that the star appeared to sound different, with his voice being described as "off" and fans saying it sounds "nothing like him".

The singer crooned his famous hit for the royal family and concert goers at the celebration in the grounds of Windsor Castle,

Some fans quickly jumped onto social media as the iconic singer performed to share their thoughts, as one tweeted: "Wasn’t 100% sure that was Lionel until I saw him – sounds nothing like him!"

    A fifth shared: "Lionel Richie sounding nothing like Lionel Richie."

    Another blasted the performance as they wrote: "Not sure what key Lionel Richie was singing in but it wasn't the same as the music! Very sad to see."

    The singer performed his hit 'Easy Like Sunday Morning' before launching into a performance of 'All Night Long' which saw the crowd on their feet, including King Charles and Queen Camilla as well as other members of the royal family including Mike and Zara Tindall.

    Other performances for the royal celebrations to mark the crowning of King Charles III include Take That, Katy Perry, DJ Pete Tong, Paloma Faith, Olly Murs, veteran rock guitarist Steve Winwood and Nicole Scherzinger singing Reflection from Mulan.

    The concert, which is airing on BBC, is being hosted by Downton Abbey and Paddington star Hugh Bonneville.

    The concert is taking place in the grounds of Windsor Castle as the Coronation celebrations continue across the weekend, to mark new monarch King Charles III taking the crown.
