Everyone’s Talking About “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story,” But This Post Is Specifically For Fans Sobbing Over The Final Scene

There are obviously MASSIVE spoilers ahead for Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story!

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is already one of the biggest Netflix shows this year — like, the series reportedly drew in 148.28 million hours of viewing worldwide in its first four days.

While the show as a whole is one of my favorites, I cannot stop thinking about the literal last five minutes of the series, and how it’s one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful moments.

Netflix

In the final moments of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Charlotte crawls underneath a bed with George, and the two share a moment together, one that includes George remembering that Charlotte didn’t leave before their wedding.

Netflix

It’s always “ILY” and never “IDNGOTW.”

And then, as they lie there, hiding from the heavens, we see young Charlotte and young George again. When Golda changes into India, I was fully SOBBING, let me tell you.

Netflix

It’s a perfect ending to a show that was filled with love between Charlotte and George, even though we know what happens to the two of them.

Netflix

Speaking about filming this last scene, Golda told Netflix’s Tudum that it was director Tom Verica’s idea to have both young and older Charlotte and George in the scene.

Corey added, “That is the genius of director and executive producer Tom Verica. He texted me and India, and he said, ‘Learn that last scene, and come in ready to do the entire thing.'”

He continued, saying, “It’s not the audience getting a flashback. It’s not the audience going, ‘Oh yeah, there they are, older. Do you remember when they were in that scene when they were younger?’ It’s the characters doing that.”

Netflix

“They’re going, ‘I remember you as you were, and the reason I remember you as you were is because our love is still the same. Our love is still just as strong.'”

It was also the only time Golda, India, Corey, and James Fleet filmed together.

Corey explained to Netflix’s Tudum, “Filming that [scene] was completely out-of-body, because there were moments where I was filming with Golda, and India was filming [with] James. It was good because me and India had a chemistry, and me and Golda had a different chemistry.”

Taylor Miller / BuzzFeed

“It was the chemistry of the older George and the queen. And it was also lovely because we’d had so much time together by that point. It felt like a necessity — it was a good sense of closure filming that scene,” he continued.

Netflix

Meanwhile, Golda said that it’s a moment that allows the show to express the deep love between Charlotte and George, which is often hard to do — both on a TV series and in real life.

Taylor Miller / BuzzFeed

“I always find it really difficult to explain what love is. Because, for me, love is not about words. It really is a deeper connection with that person, an understanding that when you look at them, it’s there,” Golda explained.

She continued, saying, “I love the fact that Queen Charlotte knows what to do to help King George; whereas, young Queen Charlotte is at the beginning of that journey. Queen Charlotte now knows how to communicate with the man she loves. She knows what he needs. She understands him. It’s a lifelong journey for them, and you see that in that last scene.”

I think it’s beautiful how #Bridgerton made her seem like a cold gossip loving Queen. But #QueenCharlotte  showcased how her concern was always her love for the king and protecting their love. Even when she has to face the world without him. pic.twitter.com/guAfD3iEC4

In conclusion, I think we can all agree:

I want Netflix to give Shonda an unlimited budget where it concerns Bridgerton. Let her work her magic for this series because the way she BODIED Queen Charlotte is wild. Six episodes full of greatness with each passing minute. Give her the room please!
