Serena Williams Intends To Incorporate Disney Theme For Unborn Baby’s Name
After teasing her unborn child’s name, Serena Williams has given fans something to speculate about.
This past week, the Tennis champ announced that she was expecting her second child with her husband, Alexis Ohanian, when she attended the 2023 Met Gala fashion event. The 41-year-old, who asked her fans to help her pick a baby name, recently confirmed in a social media post that she is mulling over naming her unborn child after Disney characters.
Serena Williams Teases Disney Character For Her Baby Name
The Wimbledon star took to TikTok to churn out some possible names she was considering for her tiny tot; however, Williams didn’t just list any baby name; she particularly mentioned some of her favorite Disney characters’ names.
In the video post where the retired tennis star listed Maleficent, Scar, Gaston, Ursula, and Lady Gothel as potential names for her baby- depending on the gender- She said:
“Good Morning. I was thinking about… I don’t know the gender; I don’t know if we’re having a girl or a boy. So, I’m thinking about some names, and I was like, maybe I should do something with my favorite Disney characters because I love Disney, and as you know, I’m like their biggest fan.”
William, a massive fan of the animation company, added, “So, if it’s a girl, it could be like Maleficent, [Maleficent], that’s how you say it?” She continued, “It could be Scar if it’s a boy, love Scar; misunderstood a little bit. What else? Gaston. How could I forget Gaston? Ursula,[is a] classic, got to love Ursula. Lady Gothel, maybe I can call her Lady Gothel if it’s a girl.
In the end, the professional athlete enthusiastically gushed, “So, just been through these names. Telling you I’m onto something.” A slew of fans underneath the post used the opportunity to suggest names for Williams’ unborn child while others gave their opinions on the ones she selected.
One fan suggested, “Olympia is Alexis Olympia = A.O., Australian Open. Hear me out, Roland Garros, or even Ashe for Arthur Ashe. Hercules, if you want Disney. Aurora, if girl!”
Another fan commented, “Nala, Ursula or Megara for a girl ? and if its a boy, Naveen, Maui, or James after Captain James Hook ?.” A third follower, who was not a fan of the names she picked, stated, “No and No.”
“How about after you, your hubby[,] or another family member? I know it’s not Disney, ijs. Congrats ?,” an endearing fan suggested. A fifth fan quipped, “Or it could just be Disney ?.”
Wiliams and Ohanian have plenty of names to choose from if they eventually decide to name their second child after a Disney character. But before all this, the public basked in the thrill of her pregnancy announcement. The NAACP Image Awards winner shocked her fans when she posted photos of herself, her husband, and her cute baby bump at the 2023 M.E.T. Gala.
The 5-frame slides showed different poses of the retired athlete, but the final pic made her baby bump very apparent. She donned a sharp Gucci dress with a complementing jacket and a tulle train beneath and giggled at her hubby’s words. Meanwhile, Ohanian opted for a simple tuxedo.
In the caption, to announce the good news, the expecting mom wrote an exhilarating wordplay that read, “Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala.”
Fans and loved ones rushed to the comments section to relay their best wishes to the soon-to-be mother-of-two and her family. Her chosen method of revealing her pregnancy blew a handful of them away.
One person excitedly asked, “Wait a minute… is this an old pic? Are we having a new baby?” Sports journalist and executive Bonnie Bernstein wrote, “Well, THIS is, like, the holy grail of pregnancy announcement flexes, if there ever was one. Congrats Serena and @alexisohanian!!” Another commenter wrote, “Now that’s a reveal! Congrats!”
Williams Revealed The Reasons She Waited To Share Her Pregnancy News With Daughter
As fans know, Williams’ five-year-old daughter Olympia is on track to be a big sister, but to the surprise of many, her mother waited until the last minute before sharing the great news with the toddler.
The mother of one shared a video post on Instagram where she displayed the behind-the-scenes of how she prepared to share the pregnancy announcement with the public at the New York fashion show.
In it also, she chipped in that she and her beau told Olympia minutes before leaving for the occasion because the little one may have broadcasted the news before she was ready.
Williams said, “Olympian does not know right now that I am pregnant, so the big reveal would be at the M.E.T. Before we leave, I’ll tell Olympian.” She continued, “The reason I haven’t told her is [be]Ecause; she can’t keep a secret.”
However, as the clip showed, when the doting parents told their daughter the big, she hugged her mother.
