Lala Kent Is The Latest Guest To Back Out Of MTV Awards Amid Writer’s Strike
Lala Kent is the latest celeb to stand in solidarity with the film and T.V. writers currently on strike and picketing in L.A. and N.Y.
Lala Kent Was Supposed To Appear On MTV Awards
The Vanderpump Rules star was set to appear on the MTV Music and Video Awards, scheduled to air this Sunday. Kent is nominated for the best On-Screen team award for the popular show with her friends Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney.
The series is also nominated for Best Docu-Reality Show, and Kent and the girls are supposed to attend to represent. Plus, Scheana Shay and Kent were also previously announced as a presenter. Kent is following in the footsteps of many other celebs, including Drew Barrymore.
Many people are trying to show their support for writers in whatever way they can, and bowing out of events and walking the picket lines are some of the things that have been taking place. Lala released a statement regarding her decision not to attend.
Lala Kent Feels ‘Honored’
The 32-year-old spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, revealing her decision and why she is making it. “I am so honored to be nominated this year and thankful to all my fans who have been voting, but I have decided to stay home in support of the many hard-working writers who deserve to be compensated fairly.”
Kent stands up for her rights and the rights of others and has been doing a lot of activism lately. “Although Vanderpump Rules falls under the unscripted sector of T.V., that is not an excuse for me to remain silent and carry on as if there isn’t so much at stake for every writer and their families.”
She concluded, “We have to protect our creators, and I hope you’ll stand with me and many others as we do so until we resolve (hopefully very soon).”
Drew Barrymore Released A Statement Too
The actress also decided to helprs in the best way that she khow. She was set to host the awards show as she did the year before, but it’s not a good look, and she knows she is.
“I have listened to the writers, and to truly respect them, I will pivot from hosting the MTV Movie & T.V. Awards live in solidarity with the strike,” says Barrymore. “Everything we celebrate and honor about movies and television is born from their creation.”
Barrymore ends her statement, “And until a solution is reached, I am choosing to wait, but I’ll be watching from home and hope you will join me.”
So far, no one else has publicly come out to share that they are not attending the event or are bowing out of their presenting duties in solidarity, but it’s only Friday. People like Dominique Fishback, Kaia Gerber, Sam Claflin, Suki Waterhouse, Halle Bailey, reality stars like Chrishell Stause, and other VPR cast members like Maloney and Madix still have time to boycott the event or some other grand gesture in unity with writers.
