Natalie Portman Talks Living Green And Her 20-Year Fashion Choices

Natalie Portman just spilled some tea about her decades-long sustainable style.

During a recent interview, the Hollywood vegan fashionista opened up about how she keeps the conversations surrounding climate change going in her home while taking specific steps to live the greenest life possible. The Israeli-American actress’ information-packed session comes nearly a year after it was disclosed that she had to build muscle for her role in the 2022 Marvel film, “Thor: Love and Thunder.”

Natalie Portman Has Not Owned Any Fashion Item Made From Animals In Two Decades

Portman was all for honesty as she shared how she kept her loved ones interested in partaking in activities that will help the long-term shifts in weather patterns and temperatures, stating:

“We talk about [climate change] a lot in our household in terms of how we live, what we choose to do.”

She then divulged one of the things she has done has been to avoid animal-cruelty-based textiles and fabrics while investing in only vintage designs and outfits. In the words of the face of the fragrance Miss Dior:

“I haven’t bought or used any leather or fur or animal products in 20 years. I buy vintage clothes, and only if absolutely necessary, and of course repair damaged items.”

The “V for Vendetta” star added that she recently purchased a vintage handbag rather than “a new one” as part of her sustainable lifestyle. She took things deeper when she explained that her choices went beyond fashion, as she uses a car-share app that only features electric cars.

When the Golden Globe Awards winner and her family — her husband Benjamin Millepied and their two kids — travel, she organizes their “trips to places we can go by train; or if we have to fly, to stay long enough to justify the travel.”

“The library plays a big role in the family consciousness as well,” Portman told The Hollywood Reporter of how she spreads her passion for, knowledge of, and wisdom on climate change.

She further explained that the library is where her family “can get joy and greater selection by sharing and not owning. It’s a process and imperfect, but the consciousness is there.”

Unsurprisingly, the anti-poverty cause supporter is serious about the climate as she has been a vegetarian since her preteen years. She went vegan in 2011 after reading Jonathan Safran Foer’s 2009 book, “Eating Animals.”

Portman Worked On Her Physique Through A High-Calorie Diet & An Intense Workout Routine

As her veganism limits her diet, Portman had to eat berries, oats, and a protein shake for breakfast to bulk up her reprisal as Jane Foster in “Thor: Love and Thunder.” As reported by The Blast, details of the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy star’s meal plan were shared by her trainer, Naomi Pendergast, last year.

During the lead-up to the film’s premiere on July 8, Pendergast revealed that the Democratic Party supporter relied on nuts, fruits, and small salads to power her through her long days on set. When she did have lunch, the “defund the police” endorser would chow down on a vegan falafel dish along with a second protein shake.

The “Mars Attacks!” actress would eat a vegan curry and a third protein shake for dinner. Pendergast explained that the amount of food her client ate “was way more than Natalie normally eats, but it was essential for her to maintain this throughout filming to keep the muscle she had developed.”

As detailed by her trainer, the naturally curly brunette also had to partake in intense stunts to maintain the muscle from her high-calorie diet, “The initial goal was to build arm and abdominal definition. We also worked on stability and agility for injury prevention as Natalie had some dynamic stunt scenes that required her to move, twist, and land in various positions.”

The internationally certified Pilates instructor also said she was “really pleased” that the on-screen goddess survived “the challenging stunt process without any injuries.” The list of what Portman did to get in shape included boxing, weightlifting, core work, and skipping around. The triathlete praised the performer for being “focused, determined, and humble” throughout the process.
