If you’re anything like me, your favorite part of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival is witnessing the stunning red carpet looks.

The original “Junon” gown was a reference to Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage and fertility. The petal-like design of the skirt was made to mimic the feathers of a peacock, the goddess’s favorite bird.

It was originally designed for Dior’s Fall-Winter 1949-50 collection, and although it has been on display in museums before, it’s no longer available for public viewing.

After seeing Natalie’s near-perfect re-creation, people took to Twitter to praise her incredible homage to this historic piece.

I only know a bit about historic fashion post c.1915, but god is this dress ICONIC. I’m beyond relieved she wore a brilliant recreation so it can be viewed as the color was meant to be, fitted properly, and without destroying an important historic garment.

Some are even comparing it to Kim Kardashian’s 2022 Met Gala look, where she wore an original 1962 Marilyn Monroe dress that didn’t fit her quite right. Although Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!, the owners of the dress, say the garment wasn’t damaged.

This isn’t the first time, though, that celebs have worn a re-creation of this beaded masterpiece. Most notably was Miley Cyrus’s 2009 Oscars look, designed by Zuhair Murad.

Natalie’s, however, was the most direct re-creation attempted to date, which is only fitting considering she has been a Dior ambassador for over a decade!
