She continued, “My eyes were swelling up. I was absorbing all of this nuttiness.”

And not only was she affected by this person, but so was everyone else; Melissa explained that people were often “weeping” and “visibly so upset” while working.

“I think that’s why the manipulation worked, because to get to me, this person would fire people I loved, which kept me quiet,” she said. “It was very effective.”

Melissa said she finally realized she couldn’t let the treatment continue any longer and decided to speak up.

“Then one day I was like, ‘It stops today!’ I just kept saying to them, ‘It stops, it stops.’ And I know now I’ll never keep quiet again,” Melissa shared.

Now, moving forward, Melissa says she’s very particular about whom she works with through her production company, On the Day.

She explained that she and her husband, Ben Falcone, perform a “crazy check” to determine if someone is actually nice.

“You know, we were so astounded and grateful at getting to build our own little worlds, we were like, ‘We have to build the one we’ve always talked about, where everybody gets to have an opinion and everyone is really nice,'” Melissa said.

She continued, “It’s going to run a lot better with no screamers or crazy egos bumbling around. Why would we risk destroying that?'”
