F2 star Victor Martins came within inches of running over a race steward having sped around a bend despite the use of double yellow flags.

Two fire marshals were attending to the stationary car of Jack Doohan on the Monaco track on Sunday (May 28) as Martins failed to slow down and only just managed to swerve to safety on lap 22.

The French-Portuguese youngster was then handed a drive-through penalty for his actions, with many at home believing that his partaking in the race should've been over.

One fan said: "That should actually be a race ban for Victor Martins. That was stupid and dangerous."

A second added: "Should Victor Martins receive a ran ban for this? That was DAMN close, and would have been catastrophic for that marshal."

A third posted: "How on earth Victor Martins is still in the race after what he did is unbelievable. Should have been black flagged and banned for the next event."

The race was red flagged after the incident which allowed lapped cars through, ending up with an eight man race as Martins was penalised.

With Frederik Vesti taking victory, Theo Pourchaire came in second with Zane Maloney in third and Martins down in eighth.
