Mauricio Pochettino has signed his Chelsea contract after verbally agreeing to become the club's new manager a few weeks ago.

An official announcement is expected at some point in the coming days and could even happen after the Blues' final game of the season against Newcastle on Sunday.

Pochettino, who has been out of work since leaving PSG a year ago, will take the reins ahead of the 2023/24 season once caretaker Frank Lampard leaves his post at the end of the current campaign.

Chelsea fans on social media greeted the news with a mixture of excitement and relief, having waited a long time for Graham Potter's permanent replacement to be confirmed.

"Happy days. Good to have a proper manager again," one supporter tweeted. "News I’ve been waiting for such a long time. Time to get back to where we belong," commented another.

A third said: Big days ahead for Chelsea. Fantastic this has finally been confirmed," while a fourth described it as the "best news in a long long time."

Pochettino's arrival means Chelsea can start planning for what's shaping up to be a very busy summer, with plenty of squad reshuffling in order.

The former Tottenham manager has already spoken to the club about the areas of the team that need strengthening, as well as specific players he'd like bring in, keep hold of, and clear out of the squad.

The Argentine has been leading the race for the Stamford Bridge hotseat for weeks after edging out the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique. Chelsea approached him in September following Thomas Tuchel's departure, but Pochettino declined the move, forcing the Blues to pick Potter instead.
