Sotheby’s is scandalous for this one! They’re selling the bed that Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward had (and used) in their sex room.

Are you Buying The ‘F**k Hut’?

The main feature of the room was, of course, the bed. a “thrift shop double bed” with a brass frame. The actual mattress isn’t for sale, thank god but that brass frame is up for grabs and Sotheby’s is confident in its ability to hold up to a lot of “movement” even after all these years.

The auction doesn’t start until May 31 but the opening bidding price for the bed is already up and it looks like it will be starting at USD 1,000.

The description for the bed on Sotheby’s website says, “This seemingly ordinary double bed was found and purchased by Joanne at a thrift shop, and was kept in the Newman home.” They describe it as “painted cast iron and brass bedframe from the couple’s notorious F**k Hut.”

Also being sold are sex books the couple kept in the bedroom seven erotica-based titles to be exact. The couple acquired these throughout the ‘60s after they were married. The titles include: “The Joy of Sex”, “The Complete Book of Erotic Art, Volumes 1 and 2”, and “The Kama Sutra of Vatsyayana”.

Selling the bed is interesting enough but knowing what happened in it ahead of the purchase is… not the usual. “Girls thought I was a joke,” but that changed after he met his wife. “Joanne gave birth to a sexual creature,” Newman wrote. “We left a trail of lust all over the place. Hotels and public parks and Hertz Rent-A-Cars.”

But mostly, in that bed and allegedly for days on end. So, if you have $1,000, you can own the bed frame that was the focal point for Newman and Woodward’s marriage. The actor passed away in 2008 and Woodward is still alive and 93! They were married for 50 years and most of the items up for auction come from their Westport, Connecticut family home. They lived there for the majority of their marriage.

Newman wrote of their marriage and time at that home together:

“There was a glue that held us together then, and through the rest of our life together. And that glue was this: Anything seemed possible. The good, the bad, and the wonderful. With all other people, some things were possible, but not everything. For us, the promise of everything was there from the beginning.”
