On a recent episode of the podcast “Armchair Expert” hosted by Dax Shepard, Joe revealed that he cried his eyes out when he discovered that he had lost the opportunity to be a judge on “The Voice” to his younger brother, Nick. The Jonas Brothers star recounted the moment he received the news during a Fleetwood Mac concert at the iconic Madison Square Garden in 2019.
According to Joe, “It was at the most picturesque setting. And as they were playing ‘Landslide,’ I discovered he would be a judge on ‘The Voice,’ and I was so jealous. I cried my eyes out to ‘Landslide.'” He added: “It was bittersweet because, of course, I’m super happy for him, but I’m also bummed because I wanted the f**ing gig.” Nick had replaced Gwen Stefani as a coach on seasons 18 and 20 of “The Voice” in 2020 and 2021.

During the podcast, Kevin, the eldest Jonas brother, pointed out that Joe had already served as a judge on the Australian version of “The Voice,” which explained his eagerness to be a part of the show again.
Joe expressed his enthusiasm for the job, stating, “I just enjoyed the role, so I was like, ‘What the f**k?'” However, he acknowledged that Nick did an excellent job and that “it was great.”
Kevin also admitted feeling jealous when Nick and Joe explored solo projects after the Jonas Brothers disbanded in 2013 due to creative differences. Reflecting on those times, Nick explained that they are ultimately on the same team despite competition.
Nick Jonas Speaks About His ‘Worst Moment’ On Stage
During the podcast discussion, Nick also opened up about a particularly challenging moment in his career that he considered his “worst moment” on stage. This incident involved a performance with Kelsea Ballerini at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2016, which he described as a “tragic” experience that led him to seek therapy.
The infamous performance happened when Nick joined Kelsea on stage to perform her hit song “Peter Pan.” After Ballerini delivered her part with her signature style, Nick took the step with his electric guitar, ready for his solo. However, what followed was what Nick called a “tragic guitar solo debacle” that unfolded on live television.
Nick recounted the performance, describing the moment when everything went awry. “‘I come out for my thing. I rehearsed it a million times. I’m feeling confident about it — not even really thinking about it like it’s a thing that will be problematic.”
He continued: “I started, it was fine, and as I walked towards her, I just went completely blank, and I hit a wrong note and blacked out basically and clocked that it was wrong, and I couldn’t stop.”

The mishap during the live performance earned Nick significant criticism on social media, quickly becoming a viral flub that subjected him to endless online jokes.
Fans even created merciless tutorials on how to play the incorrect version of Kelsea’s song “Peter Pan,” amplifying the embarrassment and making it a shallow point for Nick.
Taking to Twitter to address the backlash at the time, Nick expressed his lighthearted response to the incident. In a humorous tone, he tweeted, “Just landed in London to all these posts from Sunday nights performance. So funny. I screwed up the solo thanks to a huge brain fart.”
