Priyanka Chopra was asked to undress while filming, leaving the actress feeling less than and unable to speak up.

Priyanka Chopra’s Bollywood Days Were Rough

Chopra revealed that an unnamed Bollywood director attempted to take advantage of her in the most “dehumanizing” way possible. This may have been 2002 or 2003,” the actress told The Zoe Report.

The funny thing is the part she was hired for wasn’t meant to be overtly sexual enough to start stripping down. “I’m undercover; I’m seducing the guy — that’s what girls do when they’re undercover. But I’m seducing the guy, and you must take off one piece of clothing [at a time].”

Chopra continued. “I wanted to layer up. The filmmaker said, ‘No, I need to see her underwear. Otherwise, why is anybody coming to watch this movie?’”

The Unnamed Director Didn’t Look At Priyanka Chopra

The actress recalled that not only did he want her to get naked essentially, but he didn’t even have the decency to ask her directly. “He didn’t say it to me; he said it to the stylist before me. It was such a dehumanizing moment.”

This move left the actress in a tough spot. “It was a feeling of; I’m nothing else outside of how I can be used, my art is not important, what I contribute is not important.” And in a total boss move and with the support of her father, she paid production back whatever they spent on her and bounced.

“I just couldn’t look at him every day.”

Priyanka Chopra Almost Spoke About This Earlier

Chopra, 40, recently completed her memoir, Unfinished, and admits she wanted to include a chapter about her time in Bollywood. She tried to detail “feeling cornered over there.”

She had it written and ready to go, but she chose to take it out at the last minute.

Her transition to Hollywood is covered quite a bit. She shared how it was different but the same. “People didn’t want to take meetings with me because they thought I was a Bollywood actor and couldn’t do mainstream American movies.”

Her beauty got her a bit of fame outside of Bollywood but hindered her in her pursuit to act in international films.

“I had been on the cover of this [fashion] magazine six times in India, and they wouldn’t take a meeting with me in America. Because they were like, ‘Oh, I don’t know what we’ll do with her.’”

Priyanka Chopra Is Her Harshest Critic

The actress may have had directors talking smack about her right in front of her, but no one could beat how down she was on herself when she arrived in the States and essentially had to start over.

She was the “Beyoncé of Bollywood,” but what did that mean? “I felt like a failure,” she remembered. “I was hard on myself.” While she had been looking for an exit from Bollywood, it was a shock to the system when it happened.

Bollywood had been toxic for her. “I was being pushed into a corner in the industry. I had people not casting me for reasons. I had beef with people… I was tired of the politics.” Being a Hollywood actress is finally the opposite of that for Chopra.
