Just Stop Oil protestors have blocked the England cricket team's bus on its journey to Lord's ahead of the Test match against Ireland.

The Test match summer is due to begin today with a one-off Test against the Irish as part of preparations for the main event of the summer, the Ashes series, which starts on June 16.

However, England's journey to the home of cricket has been disrupted by Just Stop Oil protesters. Wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow posted a picture on Instagram of three activists and police stood in the front of the bus. He captioned the picture: "If we're abit late it's not our fault…"

Bairstow's post was shared England cricket fans' group, the Barmy Army, who joked: "Thanks @JustStop_Oil though for making Jonny angry."

Bairstow, who is fit again after recovering from a broken leg, is renowned for playing at his best when he has a point to prove. One fan added: "Jonny’s gonna blast 100 off 60 now."

Another pointed out: "By taking the bus longer to get there and holding up traffic aren't the journeys taking longer, therefore more pollution is being emitted? Get out of the way and there are fewer gases emitted?"

Another quipped: "3 stumps that need taking out the ground." A third urged: "Get the bats out?!" A fourth said: "Hopefully security on their toes at the ground to stop pitch invaders."

Just Stop Oil have increasingly targeted sporting events this year, with two activists invading the Crucible in Sheffield during matches at the World Snooker Championship.

And on Saturday, during the Premiership rugby final at Twickenham, two protesters invaded the playing surface and threw orange powder. The pair were apprehended and appeared in court earlier this week charged with criminal damage and aggravated trespass.

Samuel Johnson, 40, of Reydon, Suffolk, and Patrick Hart, 37, of Brislington, Bristol, invaded the pitch midway through the first half of the match between Saracens and Sale, Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court was told on Monday.

Hart appeared in court wearing an orange T-shirt bearing the slogan Just Stop Oil, while Johnson wore a grey jumper. They spoke only to confirm their name, age and address.
