In 2022, it was revealed that Ryan Gosling was set to join the cast of the upcoming Ocean’s 11 prequel, starring opposite none other than Margot Robbie.

Until recently, we hadn’t heard much about the film, other than the fact that Margot is reportedly producing. But director Jay Roach has opened up a bit more about the details of the film in an interview with Lindsey Bahr.

New Line Cinema / Via giphy.comWe’re still not sure what the heist will be, of course, but Roach says that the movie will have “The Monaco Grand Prix [as] the backdrop, and there’s a big famous shipping magnate who has a yacht.”
Sylvain Sonnet / Getty Images“[Margot and I] were both inspired by Hitchcock,” Roach continued. “To Catch a Thief but also Notorious. [The new Ocean’s movie] just wants to be a big, big, you know, cinematic spectacle.”
Steven Soderbergh’s early-aughts Ocean’s trilogy, famous for having an almost entirely all-male cast, didn’t exactly feature much romance, and some fans are speculating if that’s what Ocean’s really needs.

Of the pair, Roach said that “originally there were some questions about whether it would be weird to have [the two] together again after Barbie. But I think there’s just some pairings you want to see over and over again. It’s such a powerful, powerful duo, you know?”
