Marvel Picks Jake Schreier To Direct Thunderbolts

With all the announced movies currently in development on Marvel's ever-expanding roster and the amount of attention paid to the company's activities, we're used to seeing random pieces of news make their way into the wider world. The studio has quietly been developing a Thunderbolts movie and has now selected Jake Schreier to direct it.

In the comics, the Thunderbolts are a team of supervillains who debuted in The Incredible Hulk No. 449, and were created by artist Mark Bagley and writer Kurt Busiek. As the name suggests, they're originally assembled by Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, though given actor William Hurt's death in March, the MCU version of the character won't be involved short of a recasting.

Baron Zemo, the character played by Daniel Brühl in Captain America: Civil War and The Falcon And The Winter Soldier has also been a key component in the years, so he's a possibility.

Yet given the early stage of the movie – all we really know right now is that Black Widow's Eric Pearson has been working on a script – there is no official casting for what sounds like a Marvel equivalent on The Suicide Squad.

As for Schreier, he's directed music videos, made movies including Paper Towns and Robot And Frank, and worked on TV series such as Kidding, Minx and the US version of Shameless. It's also worth noting that he was part of a filmmaking collective called Waverly Films with one Jon Watts, who has gone on to have a successful MCU career guiding a certain web-spinner…
