Angels, Shohei Ohtani invade Yankee Stadium on 100th anniversary of Babe Ruth HR
Two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Angels will be at Yankee Stadium beginning Tuesday night for a three-game series against the New York Yankees.
Tuesday is also the 100th anniversary of the opening of the original Yankee Stadium and the day when the last otherworldly two-way sensation hit the first home run in the ballpark’s history — Babe Ruth.

As noted in the video, the Bronx Bombers won the opener at the “House That Ruth Built” that day, 4-1 in front of over 70,000 fans.
Ruth dominated at the plate through the 1920s into the 1930s and on the mound for an elite stretch from 1915-1920, ending his career with 714 home runs (third all-time), a .342 batting average, .474 on-base percentage and .690 slugging percentage (best in MLB history). “The Bambino” went 94-46 with a 2.28 ERA and 1.15 WHIP on the mound across 163 career outings (147 starts).
Ohtani has already hit 130 home runs and has posted a .268/.355/.531 career slash line across 581 games and 2,043 at-bats. On the bump, the 28-year-old is 30-14 with a 2.84 ERA and 1.07 WHIP and has racked up 468 strikeouts in 67 games (all starts) covering 370 2/3 innings pitched.
Of course, when Ohtani, Mike Trout and the Angels visit the Bronx this week, they won’t be playing in the same stadium that Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle and scores of other Yankees legends called home for decades. Demolition of the old Yankee Stadium began in 2009 and was completed in 2010, while the new stadium has been used as the team’s home since the 2009 campaign.
