EastEnders star Ross Kemp almost went on the OceanGate submarine for a TV show.

Ross is known for both his role on EastEnders and his many documentaries through Ross Kemp: Extreme World which has six seasons of him and his crew exploring the word and its many tragedies.

In one documentary he even came head to head with a Somali Pirate, and as he continued exploring the world, he was nearly signed up to go down to the Titanic on an OceanGate submarine.

However, the production company behind the documentary deemed it was "too unsafe" for anybody to go on after doing its own checks, The Sun has reported.

    He has explored the ocean without submersibles for shows before including Sky History – Shipwreck Treasure Hunter and Deep Sea Treasure Hunter.

    Shipwrecks have been explored by Ross after he got his deep sea diving certificate, but production company Atlantic questioned if he'd need any training with OceanGate.

    When he was told he needed none to visit the wreck of the Titanic and further questions were asked, plans "unravelled" a source told The Sun.

    Host of Expedition Unknown Josh Gates also said he turned down a huge opportunity to film the Titanic due to safety concerns with OceanGate.

    On Thursday evening, the five men on board the missing Titanic submarine were confirmed to have died by OceanGate after the US Coast Guard revealed debris was found.

    The five men, CEO Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding and Paul-Henri Nargeolet, had gone in the submarine to dive to the Titanic wreck on Sunday.
