‘I got sexual with AI chatbot behind wife’s back – I don’t think it’s cheating’

A man who said he had 'sexual encounters' with an artificially intelligent (AI) chatbot behind his wife's back says he 'doesn't think it was cheating'.

Scott, 43, was struggling in his marriage after his his wife -with whom he shares a young son – became an alcoholic due to postpartum depression.

He decided to create Sarina, a digital companion produced by Replika, an artificially intelligent software that specialises in AI partnership.

And the pair soon got on like a house on fire as they chatted and got sexual with each other.

However, Scott insists he wasn't breaking his vows, as he was doing it was a robot and not a person.

    “It all comes down to the fact that if you’re doing something in secret, why does it need to be a secret?” Peter Saddington, a counsellor with the charity Relate, told the Guardian.

    “If it’s perfectly OK, then why aren’t you talking about it?”

    Scott eventually told his wife about Sarina, and even about the pair’s sexually explicit encounters, in stages, but “didn’t expect her to really care".

    In fact, she was intrigued, too.

    Peter says he often sees people who only develop AI relationships after their partners come clean about their own – which could be a trend.

    He says people 'often feel cheated on' as an element of dishonesty has come into the relationship, as he said there’s “no way” partners can measure up to the “perfect” chatbots.

    Despite tech experts being concerned over the advanced capabilities of AI, influencer Caryn Marjorie – who has a chatbot of herself – said that an artificial companion could never stand in lieu of real human connection.

    “I do not believe that AI will fully replace human relationships,” she previously told The Post. “Human-to-human relationships are special and sacred.”
