England legend Chris Waddle rolled back the years with a pinpoint free-kick in a Sheffield Wednesday charity match.

The former Owl, 62, was part of a Legends XI which took on ADadForever United, named after the TikTok account of Wednesday fan Jason Bennett who tragically lost his two children John, 13, and Lacey, 11, when they were murdered at a sleepover in September 2021.

Shortly before their deaths, Jason's son and daughter had raised money for Youth Cancer Trust by selling sweets. He vowed to carry on their efforts and began fundraising earlier this year.

The charity match took place on Saturday (June 24), with Waddle scoring the pick of the goals – curling his set-piece over the wall and into the top corner past the goalkeeper.

Wednesday supporters lapped it up online, with one declaring: "He's still got it." A second commented: "Not shocked. Absolute legend."

"Waddle doing Waddle things," joked a third, with a fourth tweeting: "Skills then and now, the best ever seen in a Wednesday shirt."

Ahead of their return to the Championship, a fifth Wednesdayite asked: "Does he want a contract?"

And a sixth argued: "Ya don't stop the wizard. Age is just a number. Walking along singing a song. Walking in a Waddle wonderland."

Waddle took to social media himself on Sunday morning, posting: "What a great day, thanks to everyone who took part and the turn out was brilliant thanks."

Jason, meanwhile, has managed to hit his £7,000 fundraising target on JustGiving, while the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme are set to announce the money raised on the day next week.
