Kelly Clarkson Admits Being ‘Lonely’ Contributed To Talk Show’s New York Move

Kelly Clarkson is sharing the reasons behind the relocation of her eponymous talk show from Los Angeles to New York City. Like her tenth studio album, Chemistry, the movie had ties to her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.

As one of the world’s greatest powerhouse vocalists, the “Since U Been Gone” singer has achieved numerous awards for her chart-topping music. Outside her stellar career, the blonde beauty wins hearts with her irresistible charming personality.

The three-time Grammy winner brought her Texas appeal to the set of her Emmy-winning program, “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” joining the ever-growing list of celebrity hosts in 2019. However, for its fifth season, the variety series’ production shall continue at the Rockefeller Plaza in New York City.

During a recent appearance on the “TODAY” show, the winner of the first season of “American Idol” got candid about her decision to transfer her life and T.V. show to the Big Apple. The 41-year-old confessed the move was long overdue as she never liked living in Los Angeles.

When one of the show’s hosts, Carson Daly, asked Clarkson about her relocation to New York, the blonde beauty explained she left for several reasons. At the top of her list was the “Because Of You” hitmaker’s dislike for her previous home.

Despite spending a good portion of her life in L.A., the mother of two admitted there was no time her heart was set on embracing the city. Yet she spent over a decade there because of her former husband and their children.

“I think COVID pointed out a lot of things. Well, a lot of us didn’t make it relationship-wise,” the sensational songstress began, referring to her 2020 divorce from Blackstock after seven years together.

“And, also, it just proved, like, I’ve never really liked living in L.A.,” the 41-year-old confessed, adding a quick disclaimer that there was nothing wrong with the “beautiful” city. “It’s just never been my thing in 20 years, so I never wanted to live there in the first place.”

Following her separation from her former talent manager, the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award recipient realized how “lonely” it was living away from her loved ones. To rectify this isolated situation, the Texas beauty decided to leave L.A., seemingly hinting that her divorce gave her the freedom to be with her family.

“It also was pointed out, especially getting divorced, it was just me and my kids on that coast. All of my family lives on this coast, and so it just got lonely,” Clarkson explained, noting that she had been honest about feeling alone during her time on “The Voice.”

The entertainer clarified what type of loneliness she experienced while living in L.A.: “Not as in like, I need a boyfriend kind of thing, like lonely as in like, you miss your family, you miss just having any family or that kind of relationship.”

Jumping on her boyfriend reference, Daly noted the “Stronger” singer’s friends would probably try to set the media personality on dates as she was closer to them. However, the mother of two disagreed, claiming her pals would not go down that route, but other people might.

Although the 41-year-old stated she was not in a “bitter place,” the entertainer confessed that as much as she “loves love,” she was not looking for a relationship.

The AMA Winner Claimed Her Show Would Have Ended If She Did Not Relocate To NYC

Weeks before her interview on the “TODAY” show, the “UglyDolls” actress addressed her move to New York on the “TalkShopLive” podcast with Nancy O’Dell. In their heart-to-heart discussion, the Texas native explained the action was necessary for herself and her kids.

Due to the crucial reason behind her relocation, the “Underneath the Tree” songstress noted she told the “Kelly Clarkson” production crew it was either they relocated, or she ended the talk show. In the Pop star’s words:

“So I talked to them because I said, ‘Guys, I need you to know what’s happening. It’s either I’m not going to be able to continue with the show, or I got to go East Coast.'”

The three-time MTV VMA honoree continued: “Covid pointed out [that] being isolated and so far from your family [is] not good for anyone. And my family is East Coast — they’re North Carolina-based. So it was one of those things I just had to — also, many personal things were going on.”
