The “Since U Been Gone” songstress got candid about her new album during her recent appearance on the “TODAY” show with hosts Carson Daly and Hoda Kotb. During their heart-to-heart conversation, the AMA winner was queried about her thoughts on Blackstock’s reaction to “Chemistry.”

Kotb, who described the post-divorce album as “amazing,” asked if the Texas native thought about her ex-husband listening to the songs. “No. I don’t know if he would care either way. I don’t know,” Clarkson replied, laughing off the subtle burn before revealing the former spouses had spoken about the tracks.

“We did have a little text exchange about it,” the 41-year-old confessed, noting that she had contacted the media personality. According to the mother of two, she assured Blackstock that “Chemistry” did not only showcase the negative side of their marriage but captured the whole story.

“I don’t even remember why or how it happened, but I was like, ‘Hey, I didn’t just diminish us down to one — You know what I’m saying? It’s all in there, like the ride. The beauty is in there, as well. Now, there’s a lot of pain, but that’s what happens, you know, for all of us.”

The songstress’s tenth studio album was an emotional rollercoaster filled with her perspective on her marriage to Blackstock. Like the blonde beauty promised when she revealed “Chemistry” was in the works, the project featured “the good, the bad, and the ugly” portions of her relationship.

However, the album review by PageSix, noted the “Underneath the Tree” singer focused more on her ex-husband’s unflattering side. In most tracks, the talent manager was depicted as a “sunshine-stealing, secret-harboring partner” who took every ounce of all Clarkson could give.

In the album’s emotional opener, “Skip This Part,” the three-time MTV VMA honoree explained she wanted to keep the separation private. However, once the details of the divorce filings made waves, the 41-year-old was forced to address the situation.

In the tracks “Mine” and “Me,” the Texas native became brutally honest, confessing that she could not believe she stayed with Blackstock for seven years. Additionally, she highlighted her ex-husband’s “secrets” and “insecurity.”

The shocking truths continued in the song “Rock Hudson,” where the mother of two admitted her former lover’s charm bewitched her until she realized the only “hero” she needed was herself. Clarkson echoed similar sentiments in “Red Flag Collector.”

The powerful song captured the blonde beauty calling out her ex for allegedly aiming for her wealth during their divorce proceedings. “Sure, you can have the towels / You can take my money,” the lyrics read. “Drag my name ’round town / I don’t mind, I changed it anyway.”

Weeks before her album’s release, the “UglyDolls” voice actress opened up about what inspired the name for her tenth studio project. During an appearance on “TalkShopLive “with Nancy O’Dell, the entertainer revealed her ex-husband was the muse behind the title.

According to the “Stronger” songstress, she chose “Chemistry” because of her unique bond with Blackstock. “I never really connected before my ex-husband. And I never connected with anybody like that. I’d never felt that” the 41-year-old confessed.

“That just kind of chemical … that level of just chemical reaction, I just never felt that, and I just remembered the first time we met, I was like, ‘Woah.’ I just felt something,” the Texas native continued before reflecting on how chemistry could be wrong.

Seemingly referring to her ex-husband, the Daytime Emmy recipient stated that chemistry could be problematic when people fell for someone they “really shouldn’t be with.” In the media personality’s words: “Not that one person is good or bad, whatever. It’s just not a healthy environment.”
