When going on holiday there’s nothing worse than feeling like you’ve been taken advantage of. One British family claims they were scammed by a restaurant and had to pay £310 for a small lunch.

The couple and their children enjoyed a beer, cocktail, some milkshakes and a plate of calamari for the high cost. They were furious at the high price after their holiday to the Greek island of Mykonos took a terrible turn.

Discussing the issue on Reddit, they claimed they were ripped off at at Eclipse on Platis Gialos beach in Mykonos. The parent shared a snap of their receipt too.

It clearly stated that they had spent €360 (£309) on one beer, one mojito, two milkshakes, one Greek salad, bread and one portion of calamari. The plate of squid alone cost £64.

They commented: "This is to help everyone and not get the feeling of being cheated. We were walking to find a spot in front of the beach a Platis Gialos and there are many restaurants with beach furniture in front of the beaches.

They continued: "When the bill came back I was appalled as the Calamari was €148, the milkshakes which we never wanted but were forced to order for our kids were €38 each and the salad and bread which we were told were free were €28 and 14.50 respectively.

"I got upset and told the waiter and cashier that this was incorrect and they started grouping up and getting mad. The cashier took the receipt and chopped off the top part which had their name, address and date of transaction details. They didn’t bother for a signature after the transaction and simply charged my card a whopping €360.80.

"I felt so cheated and wouldn’t ever want anyone to feel this way. All the other restaurants and ppl in Mykonos have been really nice but Eclipse is one place where I’d clearly avoid."

It’s not the first time someone has felt scammed in the area. Unwitting tourists have been warned about dining at a specific Greek restaurant by Tripadvisor who say to be careful if you plan to dine at the venue.

The website added a "safety warning" to its page for Mykonos eatery DK Oyster following a mass of fuming complaints over pricing. One woman was gobsmacked to be charged a whopping £50 for a glass of "undrinkable" lemonade – though the restaurant hit back.
