Australian rugby league's Canberra Raiders decided to keep up the Ashes sledging by producing a Jonny Bairstow try celebration in their recent match.

On day five of the second Ashes test at Lord's, Aussie wicketkeeper Alex Carey caused uproar by stumping Bairstow when the he was out of his crease, thinking the end of the over had come.

However, the English star was given out, which later led to insults being thrown by three Long Room members towards Carey, Pat Cummins and the rest of the Australian team as they headed for the dressing room.

The incident brought further outcries after the second test, with Australian critics claiming Carey's actions were completely against the spirt of the game.

However, it seems back home in Australia, there has been less of an outcry about the Bairstow dismissal. In fact, it even led to the NRL side Raiders incorporating it into a try celebration during their clash with the St. George Illawarra Dragons.

After scoring their first try of the game against the Dragons, the Raiders broke out into celebration, congregating around a corner flag they would use as the wickets.

In bat was Englishman Elliott Whitehead, who played the part of Bairstow. Of course, the same scenes that unfolded at Lord's happened again, with Whitehead being run out.

And of course, fans of the Raiders were falling about laughing after watching the celebration. One fan wrote: "love how much we're taking the p*ss out of England for this."

Another added: "Haha!! Brilliant. Fair play to the Canberra Raiders!!" A third said: "Best thing NRL has done for years."

Unfortunately, the irony of the celebration, which saw an Englishman playing the part of Bairstow, went straight over the head of Piers Morgan, who furiously tweeted out: "Just found out the batsman in this shameful spirit-of-the-game mocking stunt is not only ENGLISH, but a YORKSHIREMAN.

"What on earth are you doing Elliott Whitehead? Are you a closet Australian?"
