It’s no secret that this summer belongs to Barbie. It’s easily the most highly anticipated movie of 2023, and as we get closer to its release, everyone (myself included) is getting more and more excited.
Bellocqimages / GC Images / Getty ImagesIn the same New Yorker piece, it was reported that Greta “has a deal with Netflix to write and direct at least two films based on C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia.”
DisneySources also told the Hollywood Reporter that she’s attached to direct a feature film version of the popular book series.
Netflix has not officially commented on the news, but the streamer did acquire the film and TV rights to The Chronicles of Narnia book series in 2018.
DisneyAt the time, co-CEO of Netflix Ted Sarandos said, “Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.”
DisneyAlongside the Narnia IP, Netflix also acquired Roald Dahl’s body of work, with Netflix releasing the movie musical adaptation of Matilda in 2022.
Of course, prior to Netflix, Disney and Fox made adaptations of the beloved C. S. Lewis series. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader were released in 2005, 2008, and 2010 respectively.
