Things Between The Couple Were ‘Complicated’ Due To Long Distance

Shortly after the show aired last December, the “Too Hot To Handle” runner-ups talked to Tudum and revealed that their current relationship status could best be described as “complicated” due to the long distance. “Since the retreat, Seb and I have had a very unconventional relationship,” Kayla said. “The way we met was unusual, and constantly remembering that we came from two different worlds… always helps us continue to grow together.”

Fortunately, it looks like the two have taken steps to work on their relationship. Sebastian said that the skills that they learned in the retreat have been helping with the couple’s communication, as he has stopped “running away” from his feelings. Despite the distance, Sebastian told the outlet, “Kayla and I speak every day. We’re sharing our thoughts and feelings and we are both determined to continue this wonderful relationship on different continents.”

Kayla Wrote A Touching Tribute For Sebastian’s 25th Birthday

On January 12, Kayla took to Instagram to share a touching tribute to Sebastian for his 25th birthday. “Happy birthday Bebe,” she wrote in the caption. “You are capable of anything you want to achieve in this life and I’m so proud of you! A true business man, motor sport athlete, and certified lover boy. I love you. Cheers to 25!”

In the comments, Seb replied, “I have been blessed by God to have met someone like you. Not only have a met someone who I love and adore, we got to watch our relationship unfold all over again. Life’s like a movie when you’re around. Thanks for the love and support always.”

Despite the initial hurdles in their relationship, the fan-favorite couple is definitely back together. In an Instagram post dated June 9, Sebastian invited Kayla to a picnic on the beach and gave her a seashell that asked her, “Will you be my girlfriend?” Kayla didn’t have to think too hard about her answer, although she definitely looked shocked, surprised, and emotional at the sweet gesture.

The two embraced a warm hug and shared a few kisses on the beach to celebrate the official start of their relationship. In the comments, Sebastian explained, “A few months ago, we took a magical trip around El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Peru. Little did she know I had something special planned.”

Although some fans loved the sweet declaration, other fans were confused and assumed that they had never stopped dating once they left the show, especially considering their sweet messages to each other on his 25th birthday. Fortunately, Sebastian took to the comments of his Instagram post to explain exactly how things went down.

“Just so the comments are flooded with confusion…once we finished filming the show Kayla and I took a step back with the relationship because of the long distance and pressures we faced finishing a show and going back to normal life having to keep our relationship a big secret until the airing of the show,” he explained.

He went on to say, “We continued talking and loving each other, and once the show aired we decided to give it another try and date properly again. A couple months of dating again I asked her to be my girlfriend in Peru in the hope she’d say yes.” It’s clear that she did… and fans are already wondering when the two are going to get engaged!

Fans had nothing but love for their relationship. “Aww! Cute!
