The “Acrimony” producer was on a filmmaking roll this summer as the New Orleans native announced he had two movies on the way. Per Deadline, Perry revealed his first film under his four-picture deal with Amazon was titled, “Black, White, & Blue.”
A day after dropping the news, the father of one unveiled “Divorce in the Black” as his second project in the collaboration. In his signature fashion, the “Madea’s Family Reunion” star shall write, direct, and produce the upcoming film.
Seven notable Hollywood acts have already been chosen to participate in the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award recipient’s movie. The star-studded list included Joseph Lee Anderson, Taylor Polidore, Shannon Wallace, Richard Lawson, and Debbi Morgan alongside Good and Hardrict.
According to the news outlet, the upcoming film followed the story of Ava, a young bank professional whose life flipped upside down when her husband, Dallas, no longer wished to honor his vows despite her willingness to fight for their marriage.
In true Perry fashion, the script had a shocking plot twist where fate helped Ava uncover Dallas’ unforgivable sins that destroyed their union. The male character had “sabotaged Ava’s destiny to be loved by her true soulmate.”
Hardrict had reportedly been chosen to play the atrocious husband; however, there was no news about Good’s role or any other cast members in the movie. The “Eve’s Bayou” star might be the female lead; at least, that was fans’ biggest hope for the upcoming rollercoaster flick.
Celebrating the announcement of his second Amazon Prime Video project, Perry took to his Instagram page with a screenshot of Deadline’s article. “And another one!” the 53-year-old captioned the post, receiving over a thousand comments from excited fans.
Theorists pointed out the filmmaker made an iconic move with his casting by choosing two divorcees to star in a movie about marital problems. Many echoed similar sentiments with one constant theme — they could not wait to watch the stars bring their sensational skills to the big screen.
“Starring Meagan and Cory in a movie about divorce is about to have them coming from an emotional place. Movie is going to be [fire emoji],” a fan raved. Another enthusiastic person chimed: “Not Cory and Meagan in a movie with the title “Divorce” in it. Ok, Method acting.”
A third praised Perry for his casting skills, writing: “I love that you picked two actors who could draw from their own experiences for this role. Can’t wait to see it all come together!” A fellow lover of the pairing sweetly commented: “Meagan & Cory. Can’t wait to witness the magic!”

Before announcing the first set of projects in his Amazon deal, news of the pair’s collaboration came in November 2022. As aforementioned, the “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” star inked a four-picture deal with the media platform.
The duo’s partnership meant Perry would write, direct, and produce four new movies for Amazon Prime Video. Addressing the lucrative business deal, the father of one stated he was “excited and grateful” to work with the streaming giant.
Jennifer Salke, the head of Amazon Studios, echoed similar sentiments in her statement. She described the NAACP Image Award winner as “one of the most prolific creators of our time” and noted the company was excited about his upcoming projects.
Good and Hardrict’s casting in Perry’s “Divorce in the Black” came after their separation from their spouses. The “Deliver Us from Eva” actress was previously married to the motivational speaker DeVon Franklin. However, their union ended after nine years in 2021.
On the other hand, the “All American: Homecoming” actor was tied to Tia Mowry from 2008 to 2022. “The Hollywood Horror” actress filed for divorce from her husband, citing “irreconcilable differences.” However, the mother of two’s decision sparked cheating speculations, which Hardrict vehemently denied.
