Located at Disney’s Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida is a speakeasy that is actually extremely hard to get into! Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto is one of (if not the most) popular bars on property. This speakeasy offers a fun and unique experience in addition to delicious bites and tropical drinks
Here is everything you need to know about the speakeasy, how to get on the list, and what to expect once you’re inside!
How To Get Into Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto
Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto does not allow reservations to be made in advance, so getting into this tropical bar can be difficult as it is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Trader Sam’s typically opens up at 3 p.m. every day, so if you want to get in, make sure to get there around 2-2:30 p.m. Once a Cast Member comes outside the door, the standby list will open up so you can add your name to the list. You will also provide a phone number, this way once it is your turn to come back to Trader Sam’s, you will receive a text message asking you to return to the location within a specific time frame.
What To Expect Once Inside Trader Sam’s
The hidden bar is inspired by Trader Sam, an iconic character from the Jungle Cruise attraction located inside Adventureland of Magic Kingdom. The backstory states that Trader Sam was “bitten by the bartending bug” and began to search for special ingredients to mix into his magical concoctions.
Per Disney, “Venture in to this tranquil hideaway for an enchanting evening packed with fantastic fun and delightful surprises. Explore the whimsically themed lounge—festooned with ancient artifacts and exotic treasures—or set sail for the open-air Tiki Terrace for a relaxing sip or nibble under the starry sky.”
Tiki torches and other Hawaiian-themed decor surround you as the occasional “storm” rolls through, complete with cracks of thunder and strikes of lightning. Ancient artifacts and other hidden Disney Easter eggs are located throughout so while you are sipping on your cocktail, be sure to keep those eyes peeled and see how many you can find.
Disney’s official website states, “Tucked away under the lush fronds of swaying palm trees, Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto is conveniently located steps away from the lavish lobby of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.”
What To Order At Trader Sam’s
Trader Sam’s is a tiki bar that offers a wide variety of specialty cocktails, each complete with its very own show. Some of the most popular cocktails on the menu include the Polynesian Pearl (hope to get the rare black pearl), HippopotoMai-Tai, Tahitian Torch and the Dark & Tropical Stormy (bring your umbrella!).
The Polynesian Pearl is made with RumChata Cream Liqueur, Grand Marnier, and Cinnamon with Tropical Juices. — plus the Pearl is yours to keep!
The HippopotoMai-Taia personal favorite of mine and is made with Plantation Original Dark Rum, Bacardi Superior Rum, Bols Orange Curaçao, Orgeat (Almond), Organic Agave Nectar, and fresh Lime Juice.
